In ultra chassidishe circles, the Chasan has nothing to do with the kallah during engagement, so yes his mother takes care of all the going one in between....so it's normal to hear people say, I'm sending this gift to my kallah...as meaning to say my sons kallah. I guess like some people say mama for a mil....saying my kallah it's as if you are referring to her like a dgtr even if she's gonna be a dil. It's a language that connotates love. She is mine.
