Palm oil is actually one of the better anti- inflammatory oils.

Could be, but just looking at it - half solid and half liquid in the bottle at room temperature - makes me ill.

Never seen palm oil here. This year I saw cottonseed, "vegetable oil" which actually said cottonseed in the ingredients and olive oil.
Come to think of it I did not see the nut oils this year.

Palm oil is awful.
I use extra light olive oil for baking and frying on pesach. It is as mild as canola oil with no taste.

Canola is highly inflammatory
Saturated fats are not
All disease root cause is inflammation
Just saying

I don't use canola. I thought I made that clear.
And I stand by the fact that palm oil is awful. And is nauseatingly saturated.

Wasn't Palm oil supposed to be a wonder oil back in the day?

Palm oil naturally stiffens that's why it holds food together so bakeries liked to use it. Then in America in 80's 90's there was hype against saturated fats that it causes heart disease etc. So they tried to replicate palm oil in synthetic form & they created margarine, which is trans fat.

I remember mom wanting to cook more healthy after hearing health lectures. We swapped out our butter for margarine. Limited sour cream, cream cheese & eggs. Changed our beef to chicken/turkey.
Now when FDA banned transfat, people & companies were going back to palm oil/coconut oil which is saturated fat. Now saturated is considered the healthy fats & trans fat is the poison.

Palm/coconut oil doesn't turn into trans fat when frying or reaching hi heats. All other oils do.

Olive oil is healthy to use on salads or cold not in frying.
On pesach I do all my cooking/baking in light olive oil.

I heard about this can be a shailah of kitniot, however all pesach goods products are made with cottonseed oil, even with best most strict hechsheirim think potato chips etc...

This was true till a few years ago - we could never buy any potato chips, mayo etc because everything was made with cottonseed oil and we hold it's kitniyos.

Now I noticed everything is made with palm oil. I still tried to limit it as much as possible, but it was nice to be able to buy a snack for the kids.

I only cook and bake with walnut oil on pesach, since it seems to be the healthiest option.

Last year dh bought home the palm oil potato chips. They tasted awful!

We use walnut oil for kashrus, not health, reasons.

Other than olive oil, what oil do you use on pessach for cooking?
I find walnut oil burns on the stove, but it makes very soft yummy cakes.

Cottonseed oil made my potato kugel taste weird....

When it made my DD sick, that was the only "new" food that had been added to her diet in significant quantities. I later found out that it was highly processed and probably inflammatory. It may reduce cholesterol but there are better ways to do that.

I also later saw that some Chabad poskim viewed it as possible kitnious.

I think palm oil has a negative impact on the enviroment or rainforests or something.

We don't use cottonseed oil or any processed foods. I use walnut, light olive oil or extra virgin olive oil.

If you are a guest somewhere you can bring them a gift of walnut or light olve oil and ask them to use that instead.

We use avocado oil. (Del Rosa brand) it's healthy, great for baking and cooking and doesn't have a distinct taste.

I think the problem with not oil is that it can turn rancid quickly.

Yes, nut oil is wonderful, but unfortunately the food industry does not use it in processed food as it's exorbitantly expensive - many times the price of palm oil which is very cheap.

I would guess the food industry stays away from it from allergy concerns.

And what about safflower oil as a substitute? I used it one year. It was pretty good IIRC.

My two year old got horrible hives one year. It seemed like everything she ate casued her to break out. Finally we realized it was the cottonseed oil. Now we only use Walnut oil. Though I do buy chips for everyone I buy for her the Lays potota chips which are imported from Israel and there they do not use cottonseed oil

I found it very deceptive that on certain oils that were marked "vegetable oil", were really made of cottonseed oil. As far as I know, cottonseed is NOT a vegetable. and do not market it as such.
