Yehuda...I think it's such a strong beautiful Hebrew name but in my Yiddish speaking community it would automatically become Yidel or Yidela instead...so... no thanks.

Sarah. It's my favorite but I can't use it for a weird convoluted reason.
Yehuda/Yehudis. I'd love to use either or both, I love the meaning and the characters, but DH thinks they are silly names: "literally naming your kid 'Jew.' "
Shmuel. My first name is Chana and DH thinks it is corny.
Shoshana. This is actually a contender for a theoretical future baby, but it's sort of "modern" for our community and our rav might encourage us to use Raizel instead.
Miriam. Can't use it because it is a close relative's name.
Ovadia. I love it for the meaning but DH thinks it is too Sefardi.

Why wouldn't you use the others? I also love Avital. |
Ooh, thank you, a source I can look up!
Other ones dh doesn't like. He is into Yiddish sounding names, we try to meet in the middle.

Gila
Avigail
Batsheva
Menucha
Can’t use it because I’m done having kids.
Only was able to use a random chosen name for my last child because the rest were named after grandparents.

I wanted a certain name for our DD but DH nixed it at the time and it's too similar to what we did name DD so I'll never use it.
I love the name Yaakov but then I got a Yaakov as a FIL, may he live and be well.

Oh interesting. I know regular frum people who use the name, so I guess maybe they use it for the meaning and not after that avshalom.

Shachar
I would have loved to use it for a boy or a girl, but since we live in the US, I avoided giving any of my kids "ch" names.
(I've worked with a Hava and a Hani, and neither one was thrilled that very few people could pronounce their names.)

I love the name Moriah
But we live in the US so basically she would be called Maria and that would just not fly. We would be constantly correcting people's pronounciation to put the stress on the last syllable.

I also, secretly, love the name and story of Avshalom. But for obvious reasons I can't use it. |

I have very controlling parents (I knowwwwwwwwwww I'm in therapy already learning how to deal with them and their crazy demands). So I kinda have to use family names, even though I dont like most of them. I'm pregnant now, and I'm hoping it's a girl because I dont like the boy name I'm left with.
