WADR, if you asked the secretary about other school options and if you specified that you want the one that's most to the left, there's a good chance that you killed whatever chance you had to get in to YTT, which is likely why she told you that there's no room. It's important to do your due diligence, but you also need to use some judgment about how to go about getting that info.

And this is another perfect example of the pervasive sheker in the yeshivish world. "Can't let people think we are too left..."

This is Motzei Shem Ra on YTT. They are the only ones that don't worry about their name and image. The reason it's a problem to say your looking for the most left, is because they don't look at themselves as "left" just because they don't get hung up on yeshivish narishkeit like colored shirts, still learning in kollel and exact length of wigs. They are wary of those who lable themselves as left because of attitude.

A few of my neighbors send to Kol Torah.
Others send to Toras Emes, Tiferes Yechiel and Yesod Hatorah but those are more chassidish/heimish.

That's in Flatbush. Unless there's 1 in Lakewood I don't know about.
People that sent to Veretzky send to Kol Torah.

Nope. Sorry. I'll call out issues when I see them, but this is a non-issue. You go to an interview (job, school, anything) and you make your best impression. You don't tell them "I'm looking for the easiest way out."
Saying "left" as opposed to "a school that values middos and education, including secular education" shows that the person is looking to be chilled etc.
when dealing with a potential school, one should always put their best foot forward, not tell them "I'm looking to be on the left."

I know 4 families there.
More OOT yeshivish. White shirts/working father's/limited screen exposure.
Based on who I know there, it might not be a great fit for you.
But maybe others have more information.

Um, not everyone in Toms River is super to the left. My neighbors and I (mostly white shirt and working) send to a wide range of schools, from tashbar to orchos Chaim, shaagas aryeh, etc. There’s also a new school here for the more heimish crowd moving from bp.

Could be the crowd/neighborhood you’re thinking of is made up of young families that move here way before they have school age kids and don’t have to wry abt this issue for another few yrs...

Change?
I had a friend move from oot to Lakewood. She and DH were mo but he got a good job here.
They got rid of their big screen tv.
She stopped pulling out hair in front.
She said it was what she got to do for her kids education.
They also realized Lakewood was out of their comfort zone before moving in and expected to make adjustments.

Why don’t you try the new school? They don’t seem very strict.
