I don't like chicken on the bone overnight either.
Only cholent, yapsuk, or short grain brown rice stew.

So sorry things didn't turn out well! New recipes are a learning curve.
I found out the hard way that you should always try new things on a weekday, when you are not expecting company. That way if it's horrible and your family won't eat it, you can always order pizza or give cereal and milk.

ra_mom, I'm afraid you're right.
FF, fortunately, I also had two kinds of fish which I served first, so we were fine.

I always make my tebeet during the whole Friday and then set my Crock-Pot to warm for Shabbat. And I use net bags a lot.
I imagine if you wanted to try this again. You could use pargiot instead of a whole chicken .

I just saw this post. Please wash off eggs well before putiing into cholent. The shells could have salmonella or other pathogens, c"v.
I made a "cholent" recently with brown rice, sweet potatoes (cut in half) , carrots and added walnuts and spices
(Paprika, curry, salt, etc). Then I put in the eggs. The next time I made it, I added a little kasha.
