As far as I know, eBay rarely takes the side of the seller.

My son tried selling some closeout items on eBay. A buyer claimed he received a completely different item. Total lie. eBay did not even bother to hear my son's version, the truth. The buyer was believed and refunded, thereby getting the item for free. That cured my son from ever trying to sell on eBay

I'm an ebay seller and I'm scared of selling anything over $300 for fear that the buyer might pull a bait and switch on me and say I sent them a fake and return a fake to me, the same thing that your seller is accusing you wrongly of doing. ahhhh!!!
I always authenticate every luxury item I sell, via authenticators, so that I have a certificate on hand.

Too bad I didnt consult with you first 😭

I thought about this a lot over the past 24 hours.

I’m realizing that probably I would not have when I was first introduced to ebay. But I have been a member for a while now. I have both bought and sold and I guess since I’ve only had good experiences, I kind of developed a trust in the system. Which of course is not sound trust because each seller is different! But I guess since ebay was always relatively smooth and everyone I dealt with ok, I somehow felt comfortable in the moment.

I think I am done with ebay, even if things work out.

A definite takeaway is that ebay is practically a gamble : dont pay an amount you cant afford to lose and don't sell something you would not be ok with losing without compensation .

Also, I guess I am really that naive that the concept of bait and Switch regarding ebay sales somehow never occurred to me. I was way too trusting.

In other words, don't buy or sell on eBay. Because no amount of money should be thrown in the garbage, even if you can afford it.

Well the good news is that in that case, I can say with 99.99999% certainty you will get your money back. As others have said, ebay basically always sides with the buyer, and here the seller doesn't even have a reputation to fall back on,to 'prove' his integrity.
Sorry you had such an upsetting experience. Sad

I do buy sometimes from ebay, (not large products), but I always make sure to check the seller's rating and compare it to the amount of transactions they have done. A new seller or one with no or low ratings, is more risky.

Thank you, I hope so!

I have been buying and selling on ebay for a few years now and have 100 percent positive feedback.

Now I’m wondering if I should take down the few items I have for sale...

What would you all do?

I've been selling on Ebay for years. Have hundreds of positive reviews. I know the purchase is already done but here are somethings I have been thinking about your case.
1. being a seller I would never buy something expensive from someone with no feedback- there is a reason why they don't have any reviews. Even if it is just because they are a new seller, that could mean they don't fully understand the Ebay system and could potentially lead to problems later on.
2. Paypal has sided with me as a seller many times- because I have thousands of dollars going through my account on a monthly basis. Money speaks, so whoever is bringing in more money, that is who they side with.
3. As a seller I have had buyers who claim, they never received the item,(even though they emailed me to say thank you and that they love it),buyers who claim I didn't specify details enough( so I had to send Ebay all of my emails going back and forth and show I really did fully explain the item)etc... There are just bad people in the world who want to get money out of anyone they can but as long as you can prove that the item that arrived is the item you want to return and it is a dud, you should be ok. Did you get a letter from a gem expert that came with the purchase? that should be a standard paper that you should have received. then you can take that paper to a gem specialist and see if it matches, if it doesn't you have more fire for your claim.
I am sorry you are going through this, I know how frustrating it is. In the future when buying an expensive item., take a video of you opening the package from when you receive it, that way you have clear proof it is the same item.

I sold 5 real chanel sneakers to a buyer in China on Ebay and they said I had scammed them when I hadn't. I lost all of the money and the real shoes!

I purchased something very expensive on ebay and received a fake. I opened a case and the seller is claiming that he sent a real product and and that I am a scam buyer who will keep the product and return a fake.

I have already contacted ebay about this and explained whats going on. But this scammer is really scaring me, claiming he has proof he is right and saying he will ‘win’

Help! I am terrified and don’t know what to do.

So his tactics are working. He’sthreatening, manipulating, and intimidating you and you’re falling for it. That’s what he’s hoping for. Pursue your rights and don’t have any further contact with him,

You bought a $5000 diamond from a seller with no reviews? Surprised

Not to blame the victim, but that is not reasonable behavior.

I buy a lot of stuff over the internet but I try to be prudent. If I am not buying from a regular store - E.g. buying through ebay, I always check ratings and I generally only buy items that are fairly low value. I do buy through Etsy but use a credit card and also read reviews.

However as others have posted, EBAY and PayPal side with buyers just as credit card companies generally side with buyers in a dispute.

However sellers also get scammed and diamonds would be an easy way to try to cheat a seller although some diamonds do have markings like VIN numbers so that would be a way a seller could prove that he didn’t get back the stone he shipped. I knew some women who sold designer bags and they used special tags which couldn’t be removed so seller had a way of identifying exactly what bsg was shipped.

OP, please tell us how this saga ends.

I buy on Ebay a lot, and I never touch any sellers with no or little feedback.

Why do you think Ebay will take the seller's side against yours for that reason alone, having had no dealings with them?

1. We were scammed as sellers on Ebay out of $1200. The buyer was found right. Ebay always sides with the buyer.

2. I hate paypal. We have been messed over by paypal. They are awful.

3. I don't think the state attorney general will intervene in such a case. I have gotten money back for reporting a fraudulent warranty company to the better business bureau. When the company was caught and found guilty, we got out money back because I had filed a claim (having no idea that it would ever go to court)

OP you will be fine as you are the buyer

Lesson learned the hard way Crying
I hope at least my experience can help others who are as naive as I was.

I am hoping the truth will shine through, just am in extreme shock and fright of the seller’s deceit belligerence, attitude, and lies.
