"Stuff we like to do" does not equal minhag. To some, a white tablecloth is the fanciest look possible, so of course they want it for yom tov. That's all.

We had a blue (disposable ) tablecloth (the yam-water), with brown cloth runner (the yabasha-dry land). on that was scattered sea creatures. Our table represents the splitting of the yam suf!
