I cant speak for anywhere else but in Lakewood , I can name 5 shuls that will gladly give a meshulach a mask for free

Yes, they are very expensive. Usually they are just pennies apiece but now with the price gouging they’re close to $1 apiece. And you only really need one.

Didn’t they have to wear masks on the plane on the way over?

And to respond to a different post, a meshulach from out of the country is unlikely to be aware of where to get free masks, even if the shuls will be happy to offer them.

A pack of 50 disposable surgical masks that would last the duration of his stay - and could even be split with another collected - can now be purchased for less than $10, more like $7. For 15 cents they could show respect for the people they're approaching for money and make the interaction safer for both of them.

It stopped where I live. We have one central agency where all meshulachim must go before they can go door to door to collect. They are vetted and if they are approved, they are given a special sheet to show they have been approved. If they do not show the sheet, no one will give them money. Even better, we are encouraged to purchase special “dollars” through the central org and the meshulachim can turn them in for one check at the end. If someone receives the vouchers but was not approved, they wont get the money and the credit is returned to the giver. So my city has stopped allowing meshulachim for now.

OT but that is such a cool idea. Safer for people walking around with "money" instead of cash and checks and more convenient. What are the downsides? I wonder why everyone is not doing this.

It's an amazing idea. And you buy it though a school, so the school gets some of the money also.
