Ruthie Pearlman wrote "Daniel, My Son" about a family who has a long term foster child who chooses
to go back to his mother with bad results. I believe it is based on the author's real life experience.

Ruth Benjamin wrote "Yesterday's Child" about a Ba'al Teshuva who must investigate if he is a Mamzer
after learning that his mother was divorced when she married his father.

Ahh. Thanks for clearing that up.
There is also another book about a girl who is a mamzer. I don't remember the name of the book now.

Omg, OP - I also went down memory lane when I saw promise me tomorrow mentioned!

Thank you for starting this thread! Such good books from our youth.
How can we get ahold of these books for our children? (The ones that aren’t in contemporary libraries)? I would love to have some of the ones mentioned, besides for the ones I kept.
I read most of the books mentioned except the thrillers, I think.

I just gave my daughter Jerusalem diaries to read. Remember that?
The call of the shofar.

These are not so famous but did anybody read the "Seder in Herlin" a collection of short Holocaust stories?

How about "Yoshko the Dumbell" - also a collection of short stories.

Yoshka the dumbell sounds familiar.
But not memorable.

Yes I remember that vaguely.
Who wrote it?

Anyone read any of chava Rosenberg books? As a teen, those were all the rage.

Miriam Kosman wrote Family For Awhile. It is out of print but Amazon has it for $22.

Check out Amazon and Ebay. They often sell out of print books. Be prepared to pay $

Now I just want to reread every single one of those books! I wonder if I would find them as good as an adult as I did as a child/teen

My pleasure!
I don't know where you can get them. There are libraries that still have them and I think I once saw a website that sells old books.
Lots of stores are still selling the old CIS books.
Our lives came out with two editions, right?
What was heartbeats about? Was it about infertility?

Anyone read The Golem of Prague by Gershon Winkler?

I was mistaken.
The secret of the sambatyon was written by Gershon Winkler.
The COhen's of Tzfat was written by Miriam Stark Zakon. She also wrote the Gemarakup series.

Other favorites-
The pomegranate pendant
A time to Rend, a time to sow

Anyone recall a book of short stories where an older girl marries a guy who was a doctor in Vietnam? She had written letters to him while he was abroad… can’t remember the name of that collection of stories but that one stayed with me and I’d love to reread.

I did. I don't think the Chosen and My Name is Asher Lev would be considered "frum" books, despite the characters being chasidic.

So too the Sholom Aleichem books (Tevye etc)

I did read Exodus (heavy duty stuff) and Perfidy, about Rudolf Kastner. .

Anyone read The Mendel Beilis trial?

I think I remember reading it as a short story, maybe in The Storyteller?

Ooooh, I LOVED the pomegranate Pendant. It was my first glimpse into Yemenite Jewry.
There was another book I read on Yemites, written from the perspective of a traveler/collector from yerushalayim.

Anyone remember the Pitspopany books?

The secret files of Lisa Weiss
And two more by Tehila Petersiel about special children: the Safe Place and Unjust Cause . Both incredible books.
The books were considered a bit out there compared with the typical Feldheim stuff, but Peterseil was such a funny writer.

Anyone read Lieutenant Birnbaum?

My Special Brother was the story of a Down syndrom boy. This was around the time when it started becoming a thing to refer to such children as " special" rather than "[crazy]."

I remember finding the book very sweet. My husband says he knows the protagonist from Boro Park.
