My son went to school the other day wearing three pairs of tzitzis. He told me about it as we were walking to the cheder. He was also wearing his black Agent Emes hat from last Purim. My son is 6 years old.

I asked him why he put on three pairs of tzitzis. He said,
"Because then I get THREE mitzvos every second, instead of just one. "

Aha.
So, I'm usually the kind of mother who rolls with things like this so I kept on walking.

(Even so, if you saw me on the street with my son and his Agent Emes hat, and too many tzitzis strings sticking out, you might have thought us a strange pair, but I digress. )

I asked him where he got this idea from. He told me that last year, when they were learning about gedolim, he asked his Morah why Rav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg looked so big. And his morah said that Rav Scheinberg wore 100 pairs of tzitzis, and that made him look much bigger.

So I went into Mommy mode and said to him, "You know what made Rav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg a gadol? It wasn't because he wore 100 pairs of tzitzis."

"It's not? " my son asked, confused.

"No. He was a gadol because of how much Torah he learned and because he cared about every single person in Klal Yisroel... And it's because he always SAID THE EMES." I had to shout the last few words because he had already run off. He ran up to another kid and immediately whipped out a pen, pointed it at the kid and said "Hands up! This is a laser pen!"

So what do you think? Is this a gadol in the making?
Ps. Today he is wearing 6 pairs of tzitzis.

Maybe.

How many spare pairs of tzitzis do you have in your house?

Sounds like wearing Tzitzis is what makes your son feel big and important.

My nephew (same age) likes looking like a Totty. Like he wants to wear dark pants, white shirt. He would wear his Totty's old hat to school if only his Mommy would let him. My DD bought him a belt as a Chanukah gift last year - he loves it, it's like the big boys. (His Mommy lets him wear it on special occasions.)

Who knows? Not me.
We are a "boys family" so we have plenty of spare pairs.
Of course, in the past, I would always have to remind him to put on tzitzis. And he could never find a pair in the morning. But somehow, this morning, he found 6.

Yeah, well, I know they are encouraging boys to date older girls now, but he's only six. So she will have a while to wait...

We have a 3 year old here who is very makpid on kisui rosh. She's always asking me and her older sisters to tie her tichel. Now, if we could only get her to get dressed after baths, we'd have a future rebbetzin in the making.

So nu, what do you think?

Question for the future gadol:
Do you make 1 brocha for ALL the tzitzis, or 1 brocha per pair of tzitzis?
