Would you be comfortable sharing where you live so we can provide specific recommendations? Like Lakewood, Monsey, BP?

Does it really differentiate so much from place to place?

Please have some basic cookies for little kids also. They are just as happy with chocolate chip or whatever and I always feel bad to give a baby or toddler a $4+ fancy cookie because they want something

Just pretend those signs say PUT OUT REAL FOOD BY THE LADIES
Or at least not just pretty cookies and cake pops that you feel guilty for eating since it feels like a waste of money to consume (and they don't usually taste very good). Kugel, mini shnitzel, cholent, deli platters... if you're on a lower budget, just kugel is great. And I'm a sucker for anything yeasty so cinnamon buns, babka, kokosh cake...

If you’re purchasing things ready made of course it matters. Even a basic like potato kugel come out differently for each caterer. Miniatures and cakes for sure have a huge range of whether it looks good and tasted good or is just pretty styrofoam.

salads! Literally that's all I fill my plate with. And I'm not into healthy eating specifically. I just love salads. I am dissappointed if the kiddush has less than 4 types of salad lol.

I like the pies! Pecan pie, lemon pie, chocolate praline pie...

I miss kiddushim when we had really good homemade baked stuff. The mousse cups and pretty miniatures look beautiful on the buffet but are not as appetizing.

I'm making bar mitzvah iyh in a few months and this thread is interesting to me. I plan on having same food for men and women as I don't like when the men get just cake trays, kugel, cholent, herring etc.
I plan on making the center tables the mechitzah and having access to men and women and putting side tables with the rest of the food but doubled aomhot.food on both men's and women's side etc..

Personally I only eat kugel, and fruit. Sometimes a salad if it downs thave mayonnaise on it..

Strawberry shortcake from Schucks ONLY. No one else makes it as good and they taste like a knock off.

Salads are great, but I notice that at the kiddushim that I go to, the women like their chulent, kugel and herring as well. They just might not eat as much of it.
