I think there is a difference between being haman or being a mean girl in a big play and at the end of the play she is still mean and she gets punished with some weird thing. That happened to dd and she was in high school. Only at the end of the rehearsal the head told her she will stay mean till the end. Dd is a very sweet girl and was exited to get one of the main parts. It was really bad for her for the long run and I was very angry and still am at the head of the play. She wouldn’t have done it to a girl from an important family.

I don't understand this. I remember when my older sister was in a play in camp and there was a really mean part, I think it was the grand inquisitor or something like that. Like really mean. I was terrified of her. Then after the play we went back to my sister's bunk house which was for a lot of the staff and this "mean" girl was so funny and laughing and I remember thinking how normal she was. I remember just staring at her, mesmerized, totally obsessed with her. My sister told us that everyone wanted that part and some people were upset because she was related to the play head so they thought she got the part because of that but I remember her being so good at the part it can't be that was a consideration. So if play head's can't pick the important girls and they can't pick the unimportant girls to play the mean parts, who should they pick?

Acting the part of a mean character doesn’t make her a mean person. I don’t get why you’re still upset.

Because she didn’t make her to be cute and she is very cute and beautiful girl

I’m sure she is and that doesn’t take away from anything. She’s ACTING in a play, the character she’s playing doesn’t define her. It’s a play! You can’t expect them to only give parts that suit the person who is playing it.

I played Lady Macbeth in ninth grade; should I have been offended?

Then it's a compliment that she's talented as well as being cute and beautiful- she's able to play the character of someone she is not!
The most talented girls in school were always cast as the villain in the play

Are you familiar what the meaning of a play is?

Sequoia, you were handed a high compliment. Lady Mac is a very difficult role that isn't given to just anyone.

Exactly.
Seriously I don't understand how a mother can be upset that her daughter was cast in a play.
Acting means portraying someone who isn't you.
We did Oliver in high school. There's not really any good guys in that story.
The main parts were played by the actresses most suited for each part.

There are plays, and then there are plays.
There are plays with well-written scripts that are directed and managed well, and there are plays that are badly written and managed by inexperienced adults.
When a small child is going to play the role of a Rasha, it's important to make sure it's done properly, in a way that won't do any damage. Maybe this thread was started by someone who saw a child's play done badly.
