Renting a gown and need to have a 'temporary hem." Does anyone know how to do that? Apparently, without sewing it.

Cellophane tape or masking tape. Or double-sided cellophane tape. You can also use Stitch Witchery but you'd have to re-iron and pull off the material. I don't guarantee that any of these won't leave visible adhesive residue. Frankly, I wouldn't take a chance and would hand sew with stitches far apart.

you can totally sew the hem by machine- just on the biggest number (5) so that it will easily be opened with a seam ripper or scissors after the event
after you sew it iron it gently and once you open the seam iron it open

I've had it done by hand big loose stitches, and steamed, not ironed.
Hemming tape actually damages the fabric, stays on and doesn't come off.

Don’t use anything iron on. It will ruin the fabric.

This is what I would assume the rental wants you to do. I went to a Gemach recently that specified that hemming must be done by hand and taken down after.
