Erev YK |
Erev YK is brought down clearly in SA that you can eat fish in the first meal and not in the second. I only heard about Purim recently does anyone know the source?

Eating 2 seudas erev YK is because it's a mitzva/inyan to eat that day.
2 seudas on Purim is purely practical. Why wait till the end of the day to eat a real meal?
We tend to wake up a bit late because we travel out of town for the first night. I give the kids a big breakfast so I know they had something filling and nourishing before they get to the junk and nosh.

People eat two legit big seudas or you’re just calling lunch a seudah and then you have the big one later in the day?
Cuz we eat regular lunch over here and then the big meal around 4-5ish.
(We also eat regular cereal breakfast as usual purim morning).

We end our rounds about 2/3. Come home for some quiet time when I serve cut veggies that I prep before, fried chicken, cold cuts, challah.... our main seuda is at 5.30 and is chaotic by my parents with too many people to keep track if everyone will eat normally. And by then my dh is drunk so im a one man show. I want to know that they ate something normal and whatever happens after is mostly sugar and junk. We don't get home until midnight or later. |
When do you get to hear Megillah?

I am making a nice brunch seudah with rolls, tilapia, breaded brocolli and sorbet.
We wake at dawn to get ready, daven, hear megillah and get dressed in costumes so by the time brunch rolls around, we're very ready to have some relaxing family time.
Our main Seuda is at 4 30 and later there is another one.

Real breakfast TRANSFORMED my Purim. So much calmer and so many fewer tears. Whatever time it took was saved from dealing with meltdowns later on. To me, Purim is the one day a good breakfast (usually eggs and toast) is non-negotiable.

I make French toast in the (milchic) slow cooker. I switch it on before we go to Megillah, and it's ready when we come home. Add fruit and yoghurts for whoever wants, and it's a good, filling start to a busy day.

Many of my friends have a morning Seuda and another one late in the day. We only have a big Seuda later on. But I serve bagels in the morning- with sides and pastries, like a bris. I think my husband said that many people hold that the meal after the fast at night is considered the first seuda. I guess this year it’s different…

We once bought my parents a cold cut platter for mm and it was delivered before purim. With mezonos rolls, it was finished by the seuda as we had all just made ourselves a sandwich when we got hungry.
