I try not to use mine too often, because it's such a pain to clean, and I'm always worried it's not going to be 100 percent....

(You can't put it under the faucet....)

Place a wet papertowel with dishwashing soap on it, in the sandwich maker. Close it and allow it to sit overnight. Rinse very well with more wet papertowels in the morning.

why cant you put it under the faucet? I always do. I make sure not to get the plug under the water, but I clean ours with soap and sponge, under the water.

I never thought of trying that, because of the electrical wires....

turn it on, and carefully wipe a wet sponge over it. Do it near the sink so the water doesn't get all over the place. (I never did it, but I used to help cook at someone's house who had a george foreman type grill, which is basically the same thing as a sandwich maker, and that's how she had us clean it.)

just keep the wire out of the water. I have cleaned other things that have wires in the sink, im just careful not to get the wire in the water.

I'll ditto what sped said. Line it with baking paper and you'll never need to clean it.
