Shara? Anyone heard of or have this name? I knew a non-Jewish girl named Shara, and it sounds Jewish, but is it?

in Hungary pre-war many Saras were known Sharka, or Shari. So I guess Shara is similar.

you mean lithps ...
shari is short for sharon ... you can't interchange hebrew and english names - they're still different ...
recently I got a letter with an englishized version of my hebrew name ... that is NOT my name ...

I know a frum woman named Shara...never heard of it before I met her, though. She is FFB and I think her ancestry might be Hungarian?

OP here - thanx for responses so far - for those who did not specify but know a Shara who is Jewish - frum or not?
I'm also wondering whether Shara could be a variation of Shira?
Interesting that it seems to have maybe Hungarian origins. Anyone have a source for more info on that?

I know a frum family that named their daughter Shara. She's a lovely girl.
Anon in case she is identifiable

I had a Hungarian or Czeck, not sure which, great aunt by the name of Shari. I don't think this was her real name, I think her real name was Shaindy, in prewar Hungary many women and girls were known by their Hungarian nicknames. I have heard of Trudy, Madgush, Czibu, these were nicknames, not the real names.

IS it a made-up name? modern? any source traditionally? just sounds nice, meaning similar to Shira?
