For birthday present for 7-8 yr old. I want something cute that doesn't look too pathetic (I.e. only 6 pieces of lego in box) but not too expensive. Maybe $20 range. Is this realistic? Can I get something online that'll ship?

you can order from lego.com. You can order sets or get "pick a brick" and custom choose any specialty lego pieces you want.
I think you can also try walmart.com (cheap shipping) and target.com but they'll have limited selection.
I think the NIB sets on ebay are generally not a good deal price-wise, but you could get lucky. So maybe check it out.
