Today I noticed that my engagement ring is REALLY DIRTY. How do I clean it?

You can clean it with toothpaste, or give it in to any jewelry store.

Take a soft toothbrush, run it under warm water, place a tiny dab of toothpaste on it, and brush the diamond (top, bottom, front and back.)
Rinse with warm water, and pat dry with soft cloth.
DO NOT DO THIS OVER A SINK! Too may stories of rings going down the drain.

You can do it w/ the Goddard's Jewelery cleaner. It's a liquid solution along w/ a little toothbrush like brush.
I have easy access to give it in proffesionally, so I do it relatively often & the results are like new. I use the home cleaner in between or in an emergency when it looks horrid & I'm going to a wedding.

toothpaste on the diamond? that's an interesting way to clean it.
I drop it into a cup of water & ammonia, and let it there for a couple of minutes. it comes out sparkling!

When I got engaged and got the ring, the jeweller told me the best way to care for the ring is to keep the ring on your hand, and use sponge with dishwashing liquid three times daily.

Ammonia - use a toothbrush to get into the crevices if need be.

Does the ammonia ruin the white gold?

The goddards stuff is amonia based and is safe for all precious metals but not pearls, turquious and some other semi-precious gems. They do write not to leave the ring in there for more than 30 minutes.

I don't think so. I didn't realize any ruins on my rings. I do it with all my jewelry, actually.
