my 7 yr old lied tonite about not doing his homework. I asked 2 times if he did it and he said yes. when I went up to check it, he had not done one thing. any insight from you ladies who may have already gone through this. thank you in advance. p.s. he was in bed by the time I saw this.

1) maybe he doenst like to be nagged about it
2) it's his responsibility, not yours - he will suffer the consequences when he gets to school with undone homework
3) maybe he really has a hard time with it and is avoiding it for that reason
4) perhaps discuss it with him to find out if he is struggling, and if not, let him know that homework is his own responsibility and you will not be reminding him about it anymore.

How about doing homework together? I remember quite clearly as a child how my parents would ask me if I did my homework and I knew they weren't really gonna check on it so of course I said "yes" and went off to play. If they would've sat down with me to do it I would have had no choice.
This is also a great opportunityto have a little lesson about honesty.
If you can't sit down with your child everynight, how bout rephrasing the question from: "Did you do your hw yet?" to "please show me what you did for hw."
