Doughnuts..too boring.
Latkes...not for Shabbos, right?
...now I'm stuck . What can you suggest for a nice Chanuka Friday night meal?

I'm going to make a regular shabbos dinner (using chanukah plates from amazing savings) and for dessert I will make chanukah shaped cookies decorated with royal icing.

Gorgeous HAPPYMOMMY!
To answer your question OP, my mom always makes duck for Shabbos Chanukah. Duck L'orange. Yum.

I do the menorah-shaped challah thing too. I don't braid it, but sometimes I'll twist the strands to make it prettier. That and a regular fri nite meal, followed by some kind of nice dessert. I try to put a chanuka theme into whatever the dessert is - shaped dreidel cookies, or something similar. I like to cut a large dreidel shape out of paper, put the paper rim (not the shape I cut out) over a cake or pie, and sprinkle icing sugar or cake crumbs over it so a dreidel is stenciled on top. One idea that came out really nice was baking a round chocolate cake, icing it with chocolate cream, then putting cherry pie filling in the shape of a dreidel on top of it. Also, I've stopped making matza balls for the chicken soup every week and decided to make it something special for the kids to look forward to that we have on yom tov and other special occasions, so that will be on my menu as well. And maybe an apple kugel/cake served with the chicken in addition to the potato kugel.

I wanted to make sukkah shaped cookies for shabbos a while back, and my dh's posek said it might be a problem to eat shapes on shabbos because you are erasing/distroying the form.
maybe ask your LOR

I'll be making felafel-crusted chicken strips instead of the usual schnitzel.
