Eichlers in B P sells a little bag that you put the strings in and you tie them so they dont tangle while washing. I dont remember how its called but if you ask any judaica store they should know about it.
Works great

Get your husband to wash them when he washes his Talis , perhaps more often. I have just had it with washing tzizis

Why pay for a bag?
Use socks to put the strings in and a ponytail holder to tie it shut. That way you wash socks and tzizit at the same time.

I tie the strings loosely together before tossing them into the wash. You can also use a mesh laundry bag (together with the socks )

I always tie them together strongly and it works fine for me.
