I just rented one. I would love to lose like ten pounds. Any advice on how to use it best?

do 2-3 minutes of warm up on lowest setting,
then alternate between 1 minute on highest load (on my machine it comes out to load 16) and then 2 minutes on 60% maximum load (on my machine that's load 9)
do that for as long as you can then do 2-3 minutes of cool-off on lowest setting..
(with time, you're body will become adjusted to this routine so at that point you start doing 1 min on max and then only 1 min on 60%)

Why is that good? I'm going to get dizzy going up and down levels.
