Listen, they read Ruthie on Shavous, too, right? Which we don't. I don't doubt you. I just wonder, when ?

so maybe "we" don't (I.e. Chabad) but maybe everyone else does...still, thought it was a nice article...and I happen to like Koheles...(sorry if the "we" was confusing...but no koach to edit.)

I think koheles is read in shul on the first day of Succos (or on Shabbos?).

Mimivan, you're a riot.

yes, we read Kohelet at the end of Sukkot. It articulates what we tend to feel at the end of the chagim -- and during sukkot in particual -- we reflect on the impermenence of the physical. For me, I experience it as "the reading" for Mar Cheshvan -- the denoument after the high holidays.

Just fyi, Lubavitch does not generally read Koheles (or Rus, or Shir Hashirim). I found this answer online in a forum, but haven't looked up any of it myself, so can't vouch for it:

I found an answer by the Rebbe to R Uriel Tzimer (3 Sivan 5717), where he says that (1) the Mechaber in Shulchan Aruch does not bring this Obligation, (2) those who bring this Halacha say it is only a "Min'hag Be'alma", (3) THe Mishna in Shaboss begining of Perek 16 says that "Kesuvim should not be read on Shabos", (4) Yerushalmi Megilah (3,5) says that because of that Mishna we do not read Esther on Shabbat.

[Letter was printed in a Teshuvah that was given out at a wedding last summer]

The good news is, Lubavitch start so late that by the time I get to shul it's AS IF they leined koheles! (jk)
