Baby Led Weaning?

My cousin just told me about this. It's where parents start, when their babies are 6 months old, to give them real solids. No baby food, no purees but pieces of food. My cousin babysits in her house & someone wants to start sending her child there but my cousin is very nervous to feed a 6 month old pieces of food. What do you think?

I would have tried it, if the weather was warmer and I could strip down my baby as it seems like a messy sit.
