I just opened a bag of cornmeal, and I noticed tiny brownish-blackish dots. There are probably 1-2 in every teaspoonful. Also, they are very evenly distributed.
Does anyone know if they are bugs, or if they are part of the corn kernel???

Warm it in your hand for a bit and look for movement. If it moves, it's alive--chuck it. If it doesn't, it's either dead (chuck it anyway) or it's part of the grain. I've used whole cormneal and never noticed black spots, but maybe yours was toasted longer.
