I'm im'h making an upsherin in a few weeks. In our neigborhood/circles it seems that every upsherin I go to there is an entertainer hired for the kids, such as a magician, bird show etc. I am having loads of little kids and adults and it would be great to have something to occupy the kids with, but I can't afford such to hire an entertainer. Any ideas of what I can do? I can't really be busy with them myself (such as doing a game or project with them) bec. I am gonna be busy with the food adults, etc.

Can you get some teenage girls to do something with the kids?

Yes, look around for young local talent! My friend's dss' learned how to make balloon people & animals and they do a whole skit, including making balloons for all the kids, for cheap. I've hired them a few times and they always get rave reviews.

Have an arts and crafts activity--but have the parents of the kids get involved so it's not chaotic. Each parents should sit with their kids and work on a project together.
This way, you'll have to supervise less and provide fewer instructions, etc.
How many kids are you having, by the way?
And WHY has it become the "norm" in your community to hire an entertainer??
