A recipe for homemade granola

3 cups oats (I use instant oatmeal)
1 cup sliced almonds (toasted)
4 tbs. sesame seeds
3 tbs. wheat germ
shredded coconut (optional)

2/3 cup honey
1/4 cup oil
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/4 cup brown sugar

warm in pot over low heat till bubbly. Pour over dry ingredients.Mix well.
Bake on cookie sheet on 350. Stir every few minutes. Watch closely it should not burn. (just needs to become dry)

When cooled, crumble. Store in the freezer. (it does not freeze solid so you can eat it straight from the freezer.)

My kids actually prefer this over any nosh I buy. It is also delicious over ice cream.

You can also add raisins after you remove it from the oven.

I finally made that granola last night and I had it this morning for breakfast. It's delicious! I couldnt beleive that I made it when I was eating it Very Happy

sarad - I put in raisins like you suggested which added a good touch

I also put in filberts (I once tasted granola with them) and they add a great, nutty taste.

thanks for the recipe!

our recipe:
2 C regular rolled oats
1/2 C coconut
1/2 C chopped nuts (optional)
1/2 C sunflower nuts
1/4 C sesame seed
1/2 C honey or maple syrup
1/3 C cooking oil

Stir together oats, coconut, nuts if used, sunflower nuts and sesame seeds. In another bowl, mix honey or syrup with the oil and then stir this into the oat mixture. Spread it evenly onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 300*F 30 min, immediately turn out onto a large sheet of foil or parchment to cool. Store at room temp up to 2 weeks or in freezer indefinitely.

We made this a lot last year because my kids liked to take granola to school and the school was nut-free because of a child's allergy; we couldn't find any commercial granola with no nuts.

We love to add dried cherries or cranberries too.

7 cups quick cooking oats
1 cup wheat germ
1 cup wheat bran
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup water 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped dates
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup flaked coconut (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Preheat oven to 275 degrees F (135 degrees C).
2. In a large bowl, mix oats, wheat germ, and wheat bran.

3. In a medium bowl, blend brown sugar, vegetable oil, honey, and water. Mix in vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir the brown sugar mixture into the oat mixture until evenly moist, and transfer to a large, shallow baking dish.
4. Bake 45 minutes in the preheated oven, stirring every 15 minutes, until lightly brown. Mix dates, pecans, and coconut into the dish, and continue baking about 15 minutes. Allow to cool, and store in airtight containers.

this can be made with many variations - I like hazelnuts, dates, coconut and sunflowerseeds
