Dowdy is defined as dow·dy Audio pronunciation of "dowdy" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (doud)
adj. dow·di·er, dow·di·est
1. Lacking stylishness or neatness; shabby: a dowdy gray outfit.
2. Old-fashioned; antiquated.
I like to consider myself oldfashioned sometimes, I like the olden day style I.e- the old style furniture, old style ceilings, victorian era style. I dont see how that and the first definition are similar.
I dont like style, or neatness, im not shabby and wont wear a dowdy gray outfit.

I consider myself fashionable and sort of trendy. I dont feel comfortable with labeling myself as 'modern' though. I will say: in style and trendy.

I'd be pretty shocked if anyone chose to label themselves dowdy.

OT, but sarag, where are you from? where I come from, or maybe when I come from, balebatish is a high compliment, meaning "proper, respectable, accomplished". A baalebos/teh is someone to reckon with, a leader, someone who rates.
I understand that in today's yeshivos the term has come to be used as one of thinly disguised contempt, nearly as bad as "amoratzish," "baalebatim" being people who work for a living and don't learn full time. How disgraceful, considering that it is the baalebatim whose financial support enables the kollel yungeleit to be the kollel yungeleit.

hey, I calls 'em as I sees 'em--call me "proud dowd". (Nah, maybe not, but it has a certain ring to it, doncha think? Proud Dowds for Peace; Proud Dowds for Israel; Proud Dowds for Tznius; Proud Dowds for ________ (whoever is running for president, of the country or of the shul.)

one day, the proud dowd shed 50 lbs., was fitted for contact lenses, had her colors done, and bought a new wardrobe with the help of a personal shopper. when she walked out of the store, traffic came to a standstill as the entire neighborhood gaped at her in amazement. The story hit the newspapers, and the headlines blared:
"Proud Dowd Wowed Crowd"

There doesn't seem to be any positive selection to choose from in the poll.....
(Balabatish selection is creamed once the end of that sentence is with it)

oh... unless "modern" is not as in (yeshivish/modern etc.) but rather with your tastes
ok, my error. So I guess put me as neat/elegant- modern taste.

There are more styles to chose from, like classic or vintage. Vintage can be both old fashioned or dowdy and that’s not considered derogatory!
