does anyone have a practical way to pack bathroom stuff like shampoo, lotions, etc. ?
do I need to put them in bags first to prevent leakage? containers?
also, any other helpful packing tips would be appreciated.

Closed bottles of shampoo, liquid soap, liquid laundry detergent etc. will travel fine as long as they are standing right side up in a carton. Do what the movers do and pack crumpled newspaper on the bottom of the carton (it's a good idea for most cartons) and between bottles to help absorb impact and to take up space between the bottles. I would put things like alcohol, peroxide, iodine etc. in plastic bags, just in case. Things like medicines should probably not be packed and left around too long because they can get very hot in transport, assuming you are moving a long distance. Spray cans are prohibited in some moves, so you may want to check on that. They are filled under pressure and/or contain propellant and can burst.
