DH and I are liking the name Avi but don't want it to be short for Avraham. What are the other options for the full name?

Avinoam, avichai, aviad, aviezer, aviezri, avishalom, avshalom, avtalyon, avishama, avikassis (no, that's a sefaradi surname), avocado (no, that's a fruit) avimelech (maybe not; the one in Bereshit was no bargain) and at least twenty others that escape me at the moment but that I will kick myself for forgetting when twelve other amothers post them.

It amazes me how even with a simple list of names you manage to make me laugh!

That's my Avi's name or "Avi A-V-I" as he calls himself.

I'm curious why not just Avi, not short for anything. If you like it, and it's a nice name- why not?

OP here - thought about just doing Avi but my DH points out accurately that you never hear a plain "Avi" get called to the Torah.

You can name him Av"I and have each letter stand for something. You need Alef, Bet and Yud. Simple.
Itamar, son of Eliezer Ben Yehuda (Hebrew linguist), was known as Itamar ben Av"I. Eliezer was the Alef, Ben the Bet and Yehuda the Yud.

A friend of mine had 2 brother's one named Avraham and called Avi and one named Aviezer. In school though, Aviezer was nicknamed Avi, so she had 2 brothers with the same name. Her mother always insisted on calling Aviezer by his full name.

Why would anyone name their child after the month of Av?
