Denying someone food and fluid is different from DNR.

Yeah DNR stands for DO NOT RESESITATE ...NOT starve them

A DNR comes into play when someone doesn't want a loved one to be put on a resperator

My mother was a DNR for the last months before she died. She still got oxygen (in the nose) and food and a IV with pain meds. They just didn't perform CPR when her heart stopped and she wasn't breathing anymore.

Apparently the halacha is that IV or tube feedings are not extraordinary measures and must be used if that is what the person needs to stay alive.

If there is a hospice involved, there are probably some standards that they have to follow. There is a point where a person is clearly dying and is within hours of death (may Moshiach come now so that we can end that), and they will not be able to eat or drink. No intervention is required at that point. If the person is not at that stage, some way of feeding must be found. The hospice workers may be able to coax some oral fluid intake.

If Hospice is involved she will get IV fluids, she has a right to fight tube feedings. However, legally they WILL give her iv fluids to sustain her. The only time Hospice can deny fluids is in a case like Terry Schaivo where the judge ordered against it. DNR orders is a different story, like Picklelady said, it involved not resuscitating, but oxygen and pain management, fluids, etc.. are still offered.
