if you like spicy just add red pepper, cumin, or allspice to the regular recipes you use, that'll do it.

spicy salmon: I make this a lot for friday night, my guests love it.

about 4-5 large pieces salmon fillet, skin removed, cut in halves

16oz. can tomato sauce
16 oz water
1 red pepper
1 green pepper
3 jalapeno peppers with seeds split in halves
1-2 long green hot pepper, cut in half or thirds
3-4 cloves garlic
pinch salt
pinch paprika
few tbsp. oil

sautee all the peppers and garlic in oil for a few minutes . Add tomato sauce and water, cook together for about half hour . Add salmon and continue cooking covered for about an hour.

Serve with the really spicy tomato sauce, it's delicious to dip challah in!
I also like to soak the fish in a bowl of water with some alcohol added to it, to take away a lot of the fishy taste.

the person thta gave me this recipe told me her mom did the same and so does she. You could use anything from wine to vodka. I usually use Vodka. it really takes away a lot of the fishiness. I soak it for about 3 hours. about 3 parts water to 1 part alcohol.

I love making a Sephardic cooked carrot salad that a few of my friends make.

Peel and slice carrots to fill a 2.5 qt pot about 3/4 full. Cook until still firm (like al dente). Immediately immerse in dressing.

Dressing: 2-3 Tblespn. olive oil, lemon juice, several cloves minced garlic, paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, and chopped fresh cilantro. (I don't cook with amounts, just sort of "to taste.")

Serve hot or cold.

Olive Marinade

1 can black olives, whole
1 can green Israeli olives, whole
about 1/4 c olive oil
about 3/4 T basil or oregano
3-4 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 T Balsamic vinegar
1/2 t red pepper flakes (or more t.t.)
1/4 t salt or t.t.

Blend well and refrigerate. Keeps a few weeks.

Note: T = tablespoon
t = teaspoon
c = cup

Spicy Salad Dressing:

1/4 cup of oil
2 large or 3 small lemons squeezed
3 cloves of garlic crushed in a garlic press
salt to taste ( I like a lot)
pepper to taste
dried or fresh dill

Take each ingrediant and spread over vegtables in salad. Make sure you mix the garlic up really well. If you want extra garlic flavor then use a couple more cloves. Then add lettuce to the top of vegtables. When you are ready to eat mix everything together. It's important not to put the lettuce in until last otherwise the garlic will stick to it.

Spicy Jalapeno dip

In food processor, chop 4-5 garlic peices for 4-5 jalapeno peppers, seeded.
In a frying pan, saute the peppers and garlic in a nice amount of olive oil and a lot of paprika (Abt 2 1/2 Tablespoons). as it cooks, mix it and keep pressing down with a fork. about 10 mins. add 1 16 oz container diced tomatoes and some salt and pepper. simmer about 15 mins more, keep mixing and mashing with fork. enjoy!
