I like the name Ava and the name Layla for an English name. Which name do you think is nicer for a girl?

Layla isn't going to be pronouned Leela. Leela is going to be pronounced Leela. Ava is sweet. It means bird in Latin. Ava Gardner is the instant association, but maybe not to younger people. Layla is nice. It means night in Hebrew, very beautiful. You might consider Eva which is a lot like Ava. Very dignified and pure, and beautiful. Be well.

Ava is an extremely popular American name right now. Are you aware, though, that in Hebrew it means hatred (I think)?

I, too, think of Ava Gardner. But while Ava is a pretty English name, be aware that you & your daughter may have to spend a lifetime correcting people in the pronunciation, because it's not 100% obvious. "No, it's not Ah-Vah -- It's Ay-vah."
Layla is also pretty. It makes me think of the Eric Clapton song, though.

I prefer Ava. So do most Americans, apparently, since its the fifth most popular girls name here
