What do you put in your kids sandwiches?

My childrens schools insist that they wash for lunch, so I have always made sandwiches. But I'm running out of ideas and the kids are getting bored so I need new ideas please!

At the moment we vary between tuna (or other canned fish), mashed egg, smoked salmon and cottage cheese. I only have one who likes jam and I cannot have peanut butter in the house due to allergy. Not allowed fleishig at school.

So...... over to you! my kids stomaches are depending on your ideas!! Salut

Avocado is an all time favorite! When I have too much extra time, I’ll slice hard-boiled eggs and slice the avocado, and put a drop of mayo on the bread. This is actually a cheat-supper when I can’t be bothered to make anything else.

I dont know what your kids eat but you can make anything more exciting.
eg. Tuna with pickles/lettuce/tomatoes/cucumbers etc.
Can do the same with egg salad or even just plain vegetables with salt or herbamare or something.
Mustard and cheese is great. Add in some vegetables its even better. Or just mustard and veggies. Cream cheese also goes well with most vegetables, specially cucumbers.

Or if you have those sweet tooth kids, try fairy bread: White bread, margarine and sprinkles. ;-)
Potato chips and ketchup is also good ;-)

WE have a no peanut rule in my boys' nursery, and they also have to have bread. Here are some things that I"ve done (especially since I have one who really doesn't much like bread).

- yogurt and a slice of bread on the side
- cottage cheese and a slice of bread on the side and some applesauce to mix in
- cream cheese & jelly
- just creamcheese
- noodles with ketchup (or sauce depening on which child) and a mini-bagel
- string cheese and a mini bagel
- chunks of cheese and crackers/matzo/bread

I don't do so much tuna because of mercury issues. Otherwise they'd have tuna everyday.

Also, my boys like the pesach matzo crackers which also require washing, so those work too.

Thanks so much for all your ideas. Apart from giving a variety, the hardest thing is remembering what everyone does and doesn't like - I make sandwiches for 5 of my kids, K"H.
I'm looking forward to trying out all the new ideas after succos, and I'm going to try and remember to do the lunches before bedtime so that I can get the kids' input as well; there's nothing like that awful feeling when you go through your kids schoolbags at the end of the day to find a practically untouched lunch!

Wow, I'm soooo glad I don't have to pack lunches every day. My kid's school serves lunches, sometimes hot too.
