Our chanukiya is at my parents who live far away and are flying to Israel tomorrow.
We have one we got as a wedding present from non-Jewish people that is real artwork and would be destroyed if we tried using it. There is no Judaica shop where we live.
Should I buy one online? What/where? Nothing superfancy, but still. I can make a kiddie one that would be useable but would be just like what kids make in school but that doesn't seem right.
I'll go check amazon, but thought I can try posting here first.

I wanted to help you out by googling, but when I did, I found this:
on menorah.com (which DOES have decent stuff as well).
If you want to go local, do you have Bed Bath & Beyond near you? They usually have decent, inexpensive menorahs.

I know someone who uses 9 shot glasses and fills with a combo of water and oil, and lights a wicks in it.

do you mean a menorah? or is it something different?

I made our own one out of fimo dough. It isnt like a kiddie one at all.
Each glass holder represents one of the chagim.
