I wanted to know if Linked in has helped anyone find a job?
But someone who has no specific skills to tell of.

I wanted to know if it would be a good idea to join linked in to help me find a job (secretarial, receptionist, that sort of job)

Personally, I think LinkedIn is a great resource for jobs. I know of several secretaries, executive assistants and virtual assistants who have profiles there, and use it to build their networks for leads, or in the case of the virtual assistant, their business. It's a great tool if you take the time to explore it. There are thousands of discussion groups, a few of which are frum, and most of which post available job openings.

It's free and worth the time, IMO.

If you looking for a secretarial/receptionist job, then I hope you have some specific skills - managing phones, Microsoft Office, filing, scheduling, office managment, etc, etc.

Go ahead and build your profile. Ask for references from previous employers. Search the job postings and groups. "Connect" with anyone who is familiar with your work (or agrees to vouch for your work ethic, if you have no concrete work experience).

Good luck!

I think there's an area that you can list what your interests are, including looking for a new position.
Great idea about asking for reference.

Also there're differnt groups--is there one for your city or are? I see occasionally posts asking for temporary help etc in one of the local group I signed up.

Why wouldn't you do it? It's free and can only help. You never know who you will connect with and finding a job is usually about who you know.
