we got a can of Cod liver in shaloch manos.... does any1 know what it is? is it a type of fish, or the liver of a fish? some insight will be great, so I don't get the shock of my life when I open the can.

Yes, cod is a fish. Cod liver is the liver of that fish. I've never heard of canned cod liver, only cod liver oil, but it sounds healthy.

It is the liver of cod fish. According to an Amazon item description it is a Northern European delicacy.
Please tell us how it is! People who grew up before the era of good-tasting children's vitamins remember choking down cod liver oil. But maybe the food itself is delicious. After all, olives and olive oil don't taste anything alike.

Its delicious and very healthful. I usually make a salad of eggs,scallions,fried onions and cod liver for shabbos.Or you could make a pate with the same ingredients(drain off the oil in both cases)

can't believe I didn't think to google it.. lol, I usually google EVERYTHING but my head was all over the place friday... anyway we ate it shabbos and it was amazing!! duno what I was expecting, but it exceed all my expectation... but couldn't eat too much of it, cuz it was so rich.
