These
hot dogs

They are salty but aren't bad at all. When I'm in the States, that is all I will buy.

My mom only buys them, so they must exist. I don't buy hot dogs so I can't direct you to the brand.

Meal Mart Glatties are nitrate free hotdogs. I usually find them in the freezer section.

my kids like the MealMart better than the 999 brand. But I find it's hard to find either brand in stores.

I buy the Meal Mart Glatties at Goldberg's in the freezer section. I've seen it at some other local supermarkets too.

They're not easy to come by, but Romanian butcherie in Chicago makes AMAZING nitrate-free hot dogs. Every time my husband travels there on business, I make him bring some home for us. Yum!

Just heard about this site today. They have nitrite free hot dogs. They say they are romanian and kosher, but the site doesn't list the hechsher. The person I heard about this from is frum, so maybe it pays to call them and ask about it. Especially since a few people here mentioned romanian hot dogs in chicago.

Wasserman and Lemberger makes them if you have a way to get them from Baltimore.

Read the labels carefully. If they're adding celery juice or salt, instead, the nitrate levels are just as high. It's the exact same compound, just naturally occurring. Consumer Reports tested "nitrate free" hot dogs.

But can salt or celery juice be carcinogenic?

It's exactly the same compound. But, the American Cancer Society says nitrates don't cause cancer.

(Oh, when I say juice or salt, I mean celery salt, not plain table salt.)

Abeles and Heyman makes a lowfat nitrite free hot dog. I've seen it at many stores, it has a silver label.
