Im visiting from the UK and want to do a bit of clothes shopping whilst I'm here. Getting a bit confused with the sizes though, 1,2,3,4 what do they correspond to?!
If I usually wear a size 16 British, then what size do I need here?

I think the 1, 2,3, 4 corresponds easiest to small, medium, large, x-large but since sizes run slightly smaller here, in some brands, the 1 would be an ex-small. You really have to try things on but I doubt anything smaller than a 3 would fit a British 16.

4 is not extra large. I was a 3/4 here when I was a size 6/8 in America. Although I think some stores here are vanity sizing now. I'm a size 2 now and I definitely didn't get any smaller.
Anyway, OP, I think you'd probably be a 4. It will vary by brand though.
