What kind of community are you looking for? A haredi community? A MO community? A mix?
What kind of schools are you looking for for your children?
A "good community" for someone may be a completely unliveable place for someone else. We'll need more specifications in order to help you.

Baltimore is a nice community that has a cohesive kehilla of charedi and dati. They have much to offer for schools, shuls, people, etc. Housing varies depending on size and neighborhood.
Worth looking into

Have you considered moving to Cherry Hill, NJ? We are a wonderful warm frum community (with people throughout the spectrum), with shuls, eruv, mikahs, restaurants, schools and more. The housing is super affordable...You can rent a 2 bedroom condo for $1150/monthly, and you can buy a 4 bedroom single family house in the low 200's to give you an idea. For more info about the community or to arrange to spend a shabbat, please e-mail me. Hatzlacha in your search for the right community.

You're getting lots of fine ideas. I'm partial to the midwest myself though do recognize that there are many other healthy communities. One major consideration: what are you bringing to the table as far as skills, training, etc. for parnasa?
