I don't know about marriage books, but a nice big cookbook (with a gift receipt in case they get duplicates) is always a nice present for someone starting out.

the river the kettle & the bird
I love this book - it shows how we morph from 2 entities as in either side of the river
can change the substance of things with the mere boiling of water via the kettle
& become united with love as a bird who can walk on land yet soar into the great blue sky
