I take my laptop over to clients, so a tablet would be easier to travel with, but I'm not sure what a tablet is capable of handling.
the programs I use on laptop are
microsoft word, excel, outlook, access
quickbooks and a company specialty program that I know they have an app for tablet.
would a tablet be able to replace my laptop. If yes, any recommendations??

I have both, but my tablet is much more for fun and relaxing than work. I HATE typing on a tablet.
I workon a computer a lot and cannot imagine doing much productive on a tablet.

The programs you mention would probably be much more comfortable on a laptop. In your position I'd probably opt to spend some extra money for an ultrabook Macbook Air, or other extra-light option. Windows Surface is also supposed to be a sort of best-of-both-worlds choice but might be too far to the tablet end, don't know.

The mac book air is great because it is lightweight, but I am not sure it can run all of those programs you need.
I do agree that typing on a tablet is not that great . though maybe you can try out the surface with the keyboard cover.
Your best bet is looking for the most lightweight windows laptop that fulfills all of your other qualifications (screen size, quality, speed, etc.)
