Its a little over $20, but I love this initial charm. Its supposed to be for a bracelet, but would look cute in a chain.

The best is a costume chain necklace which is 36 inches in length. Preferably gold/silver/rose gold that can go with anything.
Other choice is swarovski crystal necklace which can go with anything (with lots of crystals).
The bib necklaces are now in style, but I don't think they go with everything.

I would not go for anything personalized. I have some name jewelry from my youth, and I didn't like it past the age of 9. it seems silly. if you don't know someone's interests, don't get her something personal. cash is nice
