anyone out there who is a vision therapist or optometrist?
What does the training entail?
Can you make parnassah working pt for someone else?
If you trained in NY -where did you train?
TIA

I have a friend who is an optomotrist . Not sure about her training but she works weird hours and travels a long way. Not ideal with little kids, that's for sure.

First off, there is only ONE optometry school currently in NYC--not sure if that's where you are located...and therefore it is super duper hard to get into. (SUNY optometry) The program is long and a lot of work--as most specialized medical fields are.
A vision therapist has an optometry background--can be an optometrist or someone who went to a specialized program for vision therapy in an optometry school, as it is also a medical based field.

There are a few frum women who are Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Orientation and Mobility Specialists. Vision Rehabilitation Therapist is also a good choice- works with adults instead of kids.
Domincan College is very accommodating about scheduling classes with the Shabbas observant in mind. Many of the schools are doing a lot of the classes as on-line classes as well.
I am trained in this field & as a private contractor get paid higher than an OT, PT or SLP.
There is usually federal funding available, that is grant money that does not have to be re-paid.
You can PM me if you have any questions.
