Do you soak the beans a night before cooking your cholent?
Did you ever use canned beans?
What is the best way to make it?

I definitely soak beans overnight. Then discard the water and add them in with fresh water with your other cholent ingredients.
I have no experience with canned beans, but I imagine they're good in a pinch. But are much more expensive than dried beans.
A gut Shabbos!

I'm going to try boiling them today!
Great tip!
Should I do this with barley also?

I soak them overnight & then drain them in the morning & add them, without water to the cholent. I make a separate juice for cholent with water & other stuff.

I don’t soak. I don’t see it making a difference. Cholent will be cholent like it has been since its inception.

I thought the point of soaking is so any "bad" beans will float up.

THE SOAKING IS to soften the bean. otherwise they will cook up hard.
obviously you all have a bracha in your cholent that I never had . . . . .

Green, do you care to post your Shabbos menu?
Last year, when DS was away at school, and I was trying to keep my weight down (plus we eat Shabbos day in shul) I made very very little Shabbos food. Now he's back, hungry, and DD is also tired of the limited menu. They both want to invite friends over, and cholent is "expected". So I have started to make cholent again......although there is not one darn thing I can do with its leftovers!

I usually only remember to soak them on Friday morning, so I let them soak in boiling water for about 1/2 an hour and then rinse them and add them to the pot.
Once upon a time, when I was more organized I would soak them overnight, in the fridge.
This past Shabbos, I ran out of the usual dry-beans, so I used canned baked beans, and it came out perfect!!!

Hi Chocolate!
I have a great cholent leftovers idea! Burritos! Reheat cholent on stove top - add spicy ingredients (cumin, paprika, some hot peppers) to taste.
Buy tortillas.
Place a few dollops of spiced-up cholent in tortilla with some shredded lettuce and diced tomato and even some taco sauce (if you like it). Try pareve sour cream and diced avocados, too if you want to get fancy.
Roll up and eat!
DH has told me this is his favorite dinner many times - leftovers or not!
