I've done that. It works so-so. The restored cake won't hold together as well as the original and it tends to crumble during use. But this trick does extend the life of the product for at least a little while.
OTOH if the product was only half-full anyway, why not just grind it up into powder, put it in a jar and save lots of $ over buyng special Shabbos makeup?
