Do you or your spouse or children use the cell phone during meals?
Is it just texting or talking?
Is it frequently or on rare occasions?
Do you have rules regarding this?

Absolutely a rule that unless someone is expecting a call/ message that is crucial, phones are not at the table.

Unless you are a surgeon on-call (or somethimg like that) taking an emergency call, I think it is extremely rude to yap on your cellphone during family meals.

Unthinkable. Just plain unthinkable.
Unless you are a member of the US Cabinet or a doctor on call.
Otherwise, unthinkable. They shouldn't even be in the room.

I tried to make a rule, but the nature of our work is that we end up taking "emergency" calls.
Most of the time, we have no technology during meals.

We try not to have cell phones during mealtimes and if one of us do pull out or check the phone we have a rule that the other can tell them to put it away.
It doesn't always work especially since our supper time is when my entire family in the UK want to chat on whatsapp so that usually takes over. Phone calls I usually hang up on though.

we established a rule; whoever is bz with the phone during the meal, gets to clear the whole table 
Guess what: nobody even dares looking at their phone...!
