My baby was just diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. I was wondering if anyone used an abdominal binder to help the muscles come together to avoid surgery. If you did or didn't use one did your child ultimately need surgery anyhow.
I am so distressed about the prospect of her needing surgery to repair it.

dont be stressed. it depends how bad it is. it is possible to heal on its own.

My daughter has a condition that will in all likelihood prevent a hernia from closing on it's own and will require surgery. Doctors like to take a wait and see approach with umbilical hernias in the hope that they will resolve with time. That is protocol. However my daughter is unfortunately not a "protocol" kind of kid and defies the laws of "regular kids" so I am feeling a bit lost here. I would like to take her to her general surgeon just to bounce it off him and have him weigh in on it but for right now I am feeling kind of helpless.
