Is it normal to get a feather on a hat? If so, weekday only, or Shabbos as well?
What about davening jackets? Gold buttons, yay or nay?
Tia!

BM = Beis Medrash. It depends on your circles, but nobody I see would be caught dead with a feather in his hat. Gold buttons I'm not as sure, but I'd still err on the side of understated.

my sons friend has a feather in his hat. sorry to say I burst out laughing when I saw him. I know, I am so rude, but dont worry he didnt figure out that I was laughing at his hat. it just looks so funny, the only people I know who usually wear feathers in their hats are in their eighties and nineties...

Yes, feathers are in for those who care about being in.

From what I see with my with-it, teenage brothers: feathers are in, gold buttons I think are not in, and cloth (terryline?) yarmulkas as opposed to velvet.

Because I really prefer that my screen name not be linked with my location. Lots of peolpe I know would be really quick to "out" me.

Gold or brass buttons in? I assume it's the more up to the minute boys, not the cheap ones? Because those jackets are often cheaper than jackets with suit buttons.

My neighbors look perfectly ridiculous with the feathers in their hats.
All they need are tweed suits to complete the look.

I must be odd. I love the look of a well fitting tweed suit.

Thanks.
