We needed a big yeshua financially and I lit a candle for forty days.

I said that I am lighting a candle for a zchus for R Menachem Mendel Miriminov. And that in that zchus I should merit a yeshua.

I also promised bli neder to publicize it.

I've heard of this before, but have never understood what it means. I'm not attacking, I'm trying to understand. Is it something like a yahrtzeit or yizkor candle, only lit every day? I've never been clear on why I do those, either.
